I think Warrior beats it out in terms of originality. Oh, and Ranger. And Monk. Those haven't been around since the beginning of time. Nope.

Just because it's called an assassin class doesn't mean it's the Diablo assassin, or any other generic assassin/ninja thingie. Let's see what it actually is before we criticise it for being what it is without knowing what it is.

Damn, that cost me a few brain cells.

Consider rangers... in my limited gaming experience, the whole "traps" thing is new for a ranger/archer type of character. Sure, rangers abound in many games, but how many trapper builds? Or interrupters, for that matter?

Keep your pantyhose on until it's actually time to poop.

That is more like a new attribute line for a warrior, opposed to a new profession.

Rangers in mmo settings, its fairly new, but the playstyle or class with traps is not new across all game settings. It is more rouge-ish in nature, but that doesn't really matter. Interuption of spell activities isnt new, but it also wasn't associated with one particular skill over another. Interuption of any activity is somewhat new, but could be found in different formats in other professions in different games.

Bottom line is that there's really nothing new in a fantasy sword and sorcery type setting... You pretty much have to stick to a particular formula otherwise it's just not a traditional "D&D" type game. If you want originality, stick to some different type of genres.

I just find it silly that people are getting mad at how assassins arent original in a traditional fantasy game setting...that's like complaining how there's no new music when you're listening to an oldies station.

I imagine:

Fast-ish attacks
Some kind of "dodge"
Sneaking skills
Ability to do lots of criticals
Dual weilding
Less armour/no shields
Less damage-dealing per hit normally

Anything else? Sorry if I've copied anything given that I've dropped in on this discussion so late.

If it just hits things it's a copy of a warrior.

IF it jsut throws things it's acopy of a ranger.

IT has to be original.
Stealth is stupid.

It should be like the mesmer/encro mix of melee.. Fast attacking, evasion, teleporting.

Hopefully they give it a tree of dart attacks and one of melee. I think we all expect claws and dual weilding so I don't see how they can not have htem..
Looking at the pictures maybe your armor will improve ranged rdamge and if you want to melee you can use a different sort of armor.

You all have to keep in mind if it attacks fast and does high damge then stuff like conjure, strengh of honor, etc could highly overpower it. It needs to have low daamge at the start if it attacks faster.

I really hope they aren't gonna go with an assassin, I was bored beyond belief with Diablo's version and I can't think why this would be any different. I would like to see another physical type class though, theres already 4 types of caster in GW

Hehe. Diablo's Assassin was heavenly (favorite class, by far). If GW's version will be something like that (+attack speed Enchantment, +run speed Enchantment, quick movement/attacking, daggers, zapping) I'm definitly going to play this like a mad man!

Though, I want to know the other classes (if there are any..) too, maybe one of those is even better (probably not though).

I CAN'T WAIT!

Besides other classes I would like some other races like GNOMES!! Dang it. There is nothing funnier to watch that a GNOME WARRIOR haha EQ had the best I think. Well until they screwed up the graphics of them. The old style gnome was the best looking ones, the updated graphic ones looked like crap.

Also I should be playing a lvl 20 assassin 2ndary the very first day. The place in the desert lets you change professions, so, they are going to have to add assassins there as well.

I hate to naysay but i reckon there gonna noob up gw if they make the assasin too good - which they probably will...
the likely hood is that its gonna have some stupid moves like one hit kill or invisibilty... damnit.

on second thought arenanet have been pretty good in balancing out the profesions (exept noob faced warrior monks and stupidly frail elementalists)
I think (because i am more important that you all (of course)) is that they should create a whole new GAME where you are the charr, and then you could fight the people on guild wars!!!!

.....well i'd buy it

it would be AWESOME, exept thed have to tart up charr graphics and somehow make a sexy female charr option for more appeal :s

( that is a sexo-bestiality confused emoticon, shocking that noone has created one however )

Not necessarily... there will probably be another place in Cantha for that.

I can't see them adding a NPC to the Desert, they'll have a whole new area for that.

That would be akin to giving out the expansion content for free. Its going to be in an area within the expansion without a doubt. I wouldnt be surprised if you had to unlock the profession before you could use it either.
